A twenty-six-year-old footballer was on Monday committed to stand trial for attempted murder in the High Court.

The man, Julian Knox of Pearl, East Bank Demerara was committed by  Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after the completion of the Preliminary Inquiry.

The Chief Magistrate found sufficient evidence against Knox to stand trial before judge and jury.

The charge against Knox states that on April 11th, 2018, at Coverden, East Bank Demerara, he unlawfully wounded Keith Dalton with intent to harm or murder him.

He was out on $250,000 bail. The matter was prosecuted by Police Inspector Gordon Mansfield.

Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that the charge stemmed from an incident in which the accused had a misunderstanding with Dalton and this escalated into a fight, where Knox wounded Dalton with intent to kill him. He was later arrested and charged.

The prosecutor said that Knox and Dalton live five houses apart and are familiar with each other.
