Four years after he was accused of shooting a 15-year-old in his mouth, Police Cadet Officer Franz Paul had those charges discharged based on advice from the Director of Public Prosecutor.
The young officer was on trial for discharging a loaded firearm at then 15-year-old Alex Griffith with the intent to maim, disable, disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.
Reports are that the parties had agreed to a $2 million settlement as compensation which was paid to Griffith.
The charges were not pursued on order of the DPP after the victim, Griffith accepted the compensation and will not be providing evidence against Paul in the matter.
Reports are to Paul came to the aid of his sister who was robbed in the East La Penitence Area. Griffith was arrested by a patrol in the area and a gun placed in his mouth by Paul. The teenager was hospitalised for some time as he received treatment for the gunshot wound to this mouth.
