Twenty-five year old Maryann Daby was on today remanded to prison for attempted murder of a police officer and possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.

Daby, the finance manager of Daby’s Distribution at Providence, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Magistrates’ Court where she was remanded to prison until May 23.

The first charge read that on May 13 at Albert Street and Thomas Land, Daby with the intent to commit murder, attempted to discharge a firearm at Police Constable Christopher Kissoon. She was not required to plea to the charge.

The last two charges read that on the same day in question Daby had .32 pistol along with 6 live rounds without being a licensed firearm holder. She pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

Attorney at law, Mark Waldron in his application for bail told the court that his client is a licensed firearm holder since 2014, however, this year Daby upgraded her firearm license to a 9 mm pistol.

Waldron explained that no spent shells were found on the scene.

However, Police Prosecutor Arwin Moore objected to bail citing the seriousness of the charge and the woman was not licensed to carry that particular firearm.
