The news was relayed during a joint press conference with the Surinamese Minister of Justice and Police and Guyana’s Public Security Minister, Khemraj Ramjattan Monday afternoon.

News from a local online website said the authorities in Suriname could not say much about the identity of the fishermen who were victims of the brutal attack at sea at the end of April. “We do not even know for sure if there are 20 victims. It has been reported that a boat normally counts five crew members. But it is not yet certain, if it actually involved twenty people who were supposedly on board the four boats that were attacked, “said Minister Stuart Getrouw of Justice and Police.
The identities of the remains recovered are still unknown at this time. The Guyanese Minister of Public Security and two senior Police officers made the trip to Suriname. During the trip, the minister met with fishermen and the families of the missing victims. The minister promised to exchange information about the suspects among other things.
Guyana’s Opposition leader, Bharrat Jagdeo has also made the trip to Suriname and he urged that the full force of the law be used to bring the perpetrators to justice.
