The indictable charge of murder was today read to Moses Singh, a 59-year-old East Bank Demerara businessman, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Back in 2016 Singh shot and killed, Campbellville youth, Seon Clarke in what was described as a vigilante-style shooting.
Clarke and an accomplice went into a grocery store at Sarah Johanna on the East Bank of Demerara and were behaving suspiciously and the police were summoned, but the men had already fled the scene by the time they arrived According to a Police report, the men were later spotted on the Pearl Public Road and were apprehended by public-spirited citizens, during which it was alleged that one of the public-spirited citizens shot Clarke, while others inflicted a beating on his accomplice.
Clarke was pronounced dead on arrival.
In Court today, Singh’s attorney, Latchmi Rahamat told the court that her client is sickly and had undergone surgery in the United States of America.
He was remanded to prison until May 17.
