The 56-year-old man appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan where the indictable charge of Manslaughter was read to him.
Peter Jansen allegedly stabbed Shelton Jordan several times,
after Jordan allegedly tried to steal his caged bird.
The man succumbed to the injuries at the Entrance to GPL’s Sophia Power station.
The incident occurred on May 1, 2018. Attorney- at law, Latchmi Rahamat, who is representing Jansen, in her bail application, told the court that Jansen was a victim of a robbery and acted in self- defence.
She also told the court that her client was chased through the streets of Sophia by the accused, who was armed with a knife. The accused managed to disarm Jordan and stabbed him with the said knife.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield did not object to bail, but requested that the defendant lodge his passport at the Court.
Jansen was released on $250,000 bail and the matter was adjourned to May 28.
