It was revealed in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning that former Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Captain Orwain Sandy is mentally fit to stand trial for the murder of his girlfriend, Reona Payne. The report was handed over to the court this morning by Police Prosecutor Shaw Gonsalves. The evaluation was done by local psychiatrist Dr. Bhrio Harry, but Sandy’s attorney, James Bond quickly requested more time for an independent psychiatric evaluation to be done on his client.Magistrate Judy Latchman who is hearing the case granted Bond’s request and adjourned the matter until 24th May.
Sandy shot and killed Payne in broad daylight in First Street Alexander village, he then turned himself into the police and handed over the service weapon he used to commit the act. Payne was shot multiple times about her body.
