A man was on Saturday evening crushed to death by a 4×4 pickup while he was seated on a main access road in New Amsterdam. Dead is Rohan Pooran also called ‘Pumpy’ 43-years-old, of 58 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam. The incident occurred at about 20:30hrs at Main and 47 Stanleytown.
Reports are that Pooran who was seated at a nearby shop ventured onto the road and sat. Eyewitnesses said the black 4×4 was not being driven fast when it came into contact with Pooran. He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased according to reports had to be moved from the roadway on several occasions after he was sitting or laying dangerously.
According to sources Pooran was imbibing for several hours prior to going to the shop where he sat for a few minutes before making his way onto the roadway where he met his death.
