Baby born with two faces at NA Hospital

What was expected to be a normal pregnancy for a Berbice teenage mother who was expecting twins, turned into a nightmare for her last Saturday at the New Amsterdam Hospital after she gave birth to a baby girl with two heads, but the baby passed away shortly after.
It was the first-born for the teenage mother and she was a full nine months pregnant.  The delivery was done via caesarian section by a team of doctors at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
According to Doctor Kester Persaud, A senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist attached to the New Amsterdam Hospital, the baby was stillborn. The baby when delivered was seen with two faces, the two heads were not fully formed, an undeveloped brain, skull, and scalp, along with an incomplete closing of the backbone. Dr. Persaud noted that the doctors at the hospital treated the case with professionalism as they were trained to.
However, he further noted that if an ultrasound was done during the middle of the mother’s pregnancy such a situation could have been identified earlier.
Medical Superintendent of the New Amsterdam Hospital Doctor Visheshri Khirodher, noted that such malformation can be caused by Environmental, Chemical, or Genetical issues. However, counseling will be provided to both parents by experts attached to the New Amsterdam Hospital since the situation is labeled as a traumatic one to the young couple.
The mother will not be allowed to become pregnant until after two years and She will be closely monitored by Medical professionals to prevent such an incident reoccuring in the near future the doctors said.
