“Our society has gone really loose, to where slackness is at its highest” says Coretta McDonald, GS of the GTU

McDonald was reacting to the sudden demise of Richard Ishmael teacher, Kescia Branche who was found unconscious on the road after leaving a city nightclub. McDonald was struggling to come to terms with what she describes as the heartless manner in which Branche was treated by whoever inflicted the injuries she sustained.

Saddened by the young teacher’s demise, McDonald used the opportunity to caution teachers to be careful of the places they go to and the friends they associate with.

GTU President Mark Lyte said another life and brilliant mind has been taken from the teaching profession.

Lyte is assuring family members of the young teacher that the Guyana Teachers union will stand by their side in their time of grief.
Branche succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, days after she was found unconscious at the corners of Princess Street and Louisa Row, Georgetown. There are reports that the woman left the nightclub in the presence of two police constables, four police constables are currently under close arrest.
