The party continues to reject what he calls the unilateral appointment of James Patterson as chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission.
At a Press conference today, Jagdeo said his party will discharge its statutory functions and will attend parliament to expose what he calls the wrongdoings and corruption in the open sessions of parliament. He also said that PPP commissioners will be at GECOM, but that non-co-operation will come in the form of protests at the regional level.
Things got a little heated at the opposition leader’s press conference when he went after the Prime Minister and the AFC for their support of the President’s decision.
It was the Prime Minister who stated that constitution reform is needed, in direct reference to the fallout in opposition and other quarters over the appointment of Patterson as GECOM’s chair, but the opposition leader opposed the Prime minister’s remarks.
Jagdeo is maintaining that the President’s decision to appoint Patterson is in violation of the Chief Justice’s Ruling. He said he would be engaging the international community and civil society on the matter.
