Armed bandits stormed the homes of two Greater New Amsterdam, Berbice families early Monday morning. According to the first victim fisherman, Roopchand Parmanand 36, of Glasgow East Bank Berbice, it was approximately 12:25 AM while he was making his way into his home with his family from an outing that six men masked and armed men pounced on them.

Parmanand noted that upon realizing the men were all armed with guns and cutlass they ran to safety.

Unfortunately, during that process, only Roopchand, his wife, and his 10-year-old daughter managed to secure themselves in a bedroom and closed the doors. Roopchand’s brother Kevin and a female friend came in direct contact with the men. However, no one was hurt. Roopchand noted that while making their way into the house the female friend fell. The perpetrators then held the girl at gunpoint and made their way into the house.

Screams alerted the neighbors who contacted the police after which the men fled the scene with $30,000 cash, a gold and diamond ring, and a Samsung Phone worth $35,000.

While police were attending to the Parmanand family the perpetrators continued their attack but this time on the Tolsiram family, who reside in the same village.

Bharrat Tolsiram a carpenter noted that approximately 01:00 He heard his neighbor’s dogs barking in a suspicious manner, upon inquiring he noticed several men around his yard. Tolsiram added that he shouted at the men but then heard a loud banging on his door.

Trying to protect his family Bharrat armed himself with a cutlass and stood at the doorway of his house in an attempt to prevent the men from entering. The perpetrators then started to fire shots into Tolsiram’s home.

They were unable to escape with any valuables since his wife raised an alarm by screaming for help and alerted neighbors; the men swiftly make good of their escape. No one has yet been arrested. According to the Commander of B, division investigations are ongoing.
