The two men who Sodomized and murdered 13-year-old Leonard Archibald appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ court this morning to answer to the indictable charge.
The men, 29 yr. old Hillary Edwards and 19 yr. old Omardai Christopher appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore and were remanded to prison until December 8th.
Inside the courtroom, the men stood expressionless as the charges were read to them. Both men confessed to the gruesome act to police investigators over the weekend. Outside of the courtroom family members and friends were calling for justice and for the men to be placed behind bars. One of the suspects was professing his innocence of the crime while he was being escorted into the Police vehicle.
Archibald’s body surfaced last Saturday afternoon some 6 days after the boy went missing.
He was found some 3 miles from Brothers Village, East Bank Berbice on a mudflat in the river.
The Post Mortem examination done on Monday was inconclusive due to the badly decomposed state of the body.
The police cracked the case after they arrested two villagers who later confessed to sodomizing the lad, then dumping his body at the back of one of the men’s house at Sister’s Village, East Bank Berbice.
The Police say one of the suspects reported that the boy became unconscious during the painful ordeal and it was at this point the suspects decided to dump his body. Archibald was laid to rest on Tuesday.
