Two days after Commander of “F” division Senior Superintendent Rabindranauth Budhram took over the management of the Criminal Investigation Department, it has been confirmed that he will be replaced by Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Williams.

This move is to facilitate the substantive Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who is proceeding on accumulated leave.
Williams, up to recently was appointed the commander of “B” division where he started a series of initiatives to build better community relations between the business community, residents and the police.
Prior to that appointment, as commander Williams served for many years as the Police’s training officer.
While at the head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Blanhum who was instrumental in solving many high profile cases is proceeding on leave at a time when the Guyana Police Force is reporting an 11% reduction in serious crimes.
He was one of the high-ranking police officers who recently testified before the Commission of Inquiry, into the alleged assassination plot against President David Granger.
According to the president, the retired assistant commissioner of Police has made some strong recommendations. It was revealed at the commission, that there appears to be a rift within the top brass of the Guyana Police Force.
The findings of that report revealed that they were some deficiencies within the Police Force. The President received the findings of the Paul Slowe led commission but noted that the report has not yet been sent to Cabinet for deliberation.
Already the opposition leader, Bharat Jagdeo is firing off at the President and the government over the move, saying he is not supportive of any reappointment of senior officers of the Guyana Police Force. But while Jagdeo is making those pronouncements, it was during his time as president that he made changes to the top brass of the Guyana Defence Force much to the displeasure of senior officers within the GDF.
