Head of Operations of the Guyana Police Force, Clifton Hicken said over the past two weeks the joint services were on the trail of two of the Camp Street prison escapees, Urie Varswyk and Royden Williams.
He said the security services received intelligence information and immediately responded and further increased its presence in the Mining Town of Linden.
Varswyk was shot dead in an exchange of gunshots with the joint services. Hicken said Varswyk used his military experience to give Williams cover to escape.
Hicken is assuring the public that the joint services will recapture Williams, who he still believes is still in Linden.
He said the focus is now to get Williams, and the joint services has intensified its presence on the East Bank and East Coast Corridors.
