Residents viewing the bodies of the three dead miners after they were brought back to Guyana

Three of his colleagues died when gunmen ambushed them at their mining camp at Imataka Mining Backdam, Venezuela.

The young man said they were preparing to leave the country after getting word that the gunmen were coming after them.Joel Paton was speaking from his home in Georgetown during a visit with Junior Natural Resources Minister Simona Broomes.

He said they traveled from Venezuela to Guyana for two days with his bleeding wounds while lying on top of this dead colleagues.

He tells how a gun was pointed to his head and fired at close range but his hand got in the way. Paton was shot five times in his legs and one around his private parts area.

Vernon Eudoxie, 51; Cologne Solomon, 23 – both of Fitzburg, Port Kaituma – and Samuel Moses, 19, of Four Miles Oronoque, Port Kaituma, North West District were all killed by Venezuelan gunmen earlier in the month.
