A former student of the Berbice Educational Insitute High (BEI) was brutally murdered today (July 29) by her common-law husband in their East Canje Berbice home. The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Parbatie Lakepaul.

While police identified her assailant as Ryan Singh, 25. The man was reportedly unemployed and has been abusing the teen from the inception of their relationship.
The couple was living together in the lower flat of the victim’s mother’s house.
Two days ago, Parbatie decided she had enough and ended the abusive relationship. She asked her abuser to leave the home. He did but returned today while she was picking her nieces up and hid in the house. As she entered the house, the man ambushed her and slit her throat.
He has gone into hiding. Police investigations are ongoing.
