Republic Bank robbers appear in court

Former Republic Bank employee, Jamal Haynes will spend the next 6 years behind bars for his role in the attempted Republic Bank robbery last Tuesday. 6 other charges were laid against him by the police, four of which he pled guilty to.
He along with Rural constable Gladstone George, police constable Anfernee Blackman, bank employee Shawn Grimmond and construction worker Keron Saunders all appeared before chief magistrate Ann McLennan, charged for the attempted robbery of the Republic Bank Water Street branch.
Haynes who hails from Norton Street, Wortmanville was charged for a July 3rd offence at Spareendam, where it is alleged that Haynes being in the company of others and armed with guns, robbed Rayan Myers of a motor car, cellphone and cash totalling $2.9million dollars.
 He was also charged with discharging a loaded firearm at Leon Joseph, a police officer with intent to disable or disfigure him, that incident took place on July 4th, he denied knowledge of those charges.
He, however, pleaded guilty, to unlawfully obstructing the course of justice by holding Thendukar Singh as a hostage, possession of 9mm ammunition, possession of a 9mm firearm without being a licensed firearm holder and attempting to rob the Republic Bank Limited.
The Chief Magistrate remanded Jamal Haynes for discharging a loaded firearm and committing robbery under arms until August 10th and 11th. The sentences will run concurrently.
Meanwhile, Rural constable Gladstone George, police constable Anfernee Blackman, bank employee Shawn Grimmond and construction worker Keron Saunders appeared before chief magistrate Ann McLennan charged for the attempted robbery of the Republic Bank, which occurred on July 4th. The men all pleaded not guilty to the charges. Saunders had two charges read against him one for possession of 10 live 9mm rounds and possession of a Taurus 9mm pistol.
They all denied the charges. Keron Saunders had two other charges brought against him which alleged that on July 4, at water street, he had 10 live 9mm rounds and a Taurus 9mm pistol.
Saunders also denied this allegation.
Chief magistrate McLennan denied bail and they were all remanded until August 11th.
Guyanese Scholar Elton Wray was killed in an exchange of gunshots during that robbery attempt. Haynes, his partner in crime, is now saying that Wray was the mastermind behind the failed robbery. Haynes was shot twice during an exchange of gunshots with the PGS security service and members of the Guyana Police Force. Haynes also worked with the said bank for a number of years.
