A taxi driver was today killed in what is believed to be a premeditated murder. The incident occurred at Skeldon Line Path just around noon. A 15-year-old boy said to be the suspect is in police custody.
The man was identified as Deonarine Lajit, 36-year-old of Number 72 Village Corentyne. There are reports that the father of two was stabbed by the teenager. The man’s reputed wife Narshoda Joseph said she last spoke with her husband minutes before he met his demise. The woman recalled that Lajit called her to bring his NIS card, after which he dropped her off to conduct her business.
The woman said she forgot her phone in the car and calls to his phone went unanswered which got her worried.
The woman said her worst fears were confirmed when she got news that the man was killed and was lying on the road. The distraught woman said when she got there the interior of the car was covered with blood. Lajit operated a short drop service in the area.
