“Is best I kill myself, I ain’t able with this no more” Grey Boy tells court, as murder charge is dismissed against him for the third time

There was more drama in the court this afternoon in the ongoing trial of Regan “Grey Boy” Rodrigues, with City Magistrate Judy Latchman maintaining her ruling and discharging the matter for the third time.

Now this comes after a directive was sent to the Magistrate by the
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Shalimar Ali-Hack instructing her to commit the accused to stand trial. However, the Magistrate maintained that there is no evidence against Rodrigues for him to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of political activist, Courtney Crum-Ewing.

Given the opportunity to speak to the court, Rodrigues maintained that he was innocent and he knows nothing about Crum-Ewing’s death. He became emotional and asked, “how many times I have to prove myself innocent in this country.” He accused a senior policeman of planting the gun in his house and said he swam across the Demerara River.

According to him, the police know who killed Crum-Ewing and they should go and look for them. “Is best I kill meself, I aint able with this no more”.

Crum-Ewing was executed at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, on March 10th, 2015 while encouraging residents to vote against the then ruling Peoples’ Progressive Party (PPP/C).

‘Grey boy’ was arrested and charged with Crum-Ewing’s murder after the police found a gun in his Riverview, Ruimveldt house, it was later confirmed as the murder weapon.

He was later charged with murder but was subsequently freed by Magistrate Judy Latchman, September last, citing lack of evidence.
