Police in Berbice say they got a confession from the reputed husband of the number 58 village woman, who succumbed days after a beating from the man.This was revealed by Commander of B Division, Eon Amsterdam during an interview. He said the man surrendered to the police and admitted to the crime. The commander said the post mortem examination revealed that the woman had spinal injuries and trauma to the head. He said the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.
Gomattie Ramsingh, 34, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Sunday, two days after she was admitted to the institution for injuries she sustained. She related to relatives in a shocking video in the hospital, how her lover beat her with a piece of iron and accused her of “giving blow” with another man.
The woman said she was dragged in the yard as well by her reputed husband. She said during the beating, the man was demanding money to buy “marijuana”.
The suspect, 27-year-old Adesh Mullu, is now in police custody as the investigation commenced into the incident. Her family says they want justice and the man to be placed behind bars.
