They were jointly charged with Sherwayne DeAbreu a Guyana Revenue Authority Enforcement officer and Nazim Gafoor the father of the motor racer.
Under tight security, the men were brought before Magistrate Roshelle Liverpool in the Leonora Magistrates’ court this morning to answer to the drug trafficking charges.
They were jointly charged with Sherwayne DeAbreu a Guyana Revenue Authority Enforcement officer and Nazim Gafoor the father of the motor racer and an arrest warrant was issued for  Narine Lall in connection with the drug bust.
The court was told that between March 1st and May 12th at Narine Lall Sawmill, they aided Hakeem Mohammed to traffic 84 Kilograms of cocaine.
Latchmie Rahamat, Vieira’s Attorney, in her bail application said that her client was not found with any narcotic.  Canu said Vieira was fingered because he signed as a shipper, but today in the court, his attorney posited that the documents signed were in relation to a shipment of wood at the wharf and not where the drugs were found.
Outside of the courtroom, a relative for the Gafoors said the men were wrongfully charged.
A lawyer for Nazim Gafoor also argued that he was innocent and that CANU has no evidence that he planted the cocaine in the wood.
CANU’s Prosecutor said Canu has been formulating the surveillance and intelligence exercise for 3 months.
In his objection to bail he pointed out the seriousness of the offence. The men were remanded to prison until June 12, for disclosure of statements and fixture of a trial date.
