Eccles man remanded to prison for causing the death of cricket umpire

Elton Carter was the driver of the Toyota Tacoma which collided with a mini-bus at the corners of Durban and Smyth Streets. In that incident Daniel Richmond, a cricket umpire was killed, while 15 other persons were injured.
When the matter was called before Magistrate Judy Latchman today in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Carter denied the charge which alleged that on May 21, he drove motor pick up GRR 8250 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Daniel Richmond.
The police prosecutor objected to bail, pointing out that Carter was uncooperative with the investigators and that he is a flight risk. On those grounds, Magistrate Latchman refused bail and remanded Carter to prison until June 1st.
