The man has been identified as 45-year-old, Dereck Mangal of Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred just after 7:00 Monday morning.
They recalled the man was riding his motorcycle when a speeding car apparently jumped the traffic light and slammed into another car which hit Mangal and sent him flying into the utility pole.
A  security guard at the Christ Church Secondary School said the man ended up in the drain with blood gushing from his head.
He said public spirited citizens came to the man’s aid, placed him in a mini-bus and took him to the  Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police later detained both drivers of the two cars involved in the accident as the probe continues into the matter.
Mangal’s brothers and other relatives upon hearing the news rushed to the scene, only to be greeted with the disturbing news of his death.
His brother said he was a careful rider and a lover of birds. Ironically, the bird he was carrying at the time also died in the accident.
