A Digital Video Recording device was retrieved from the home of NAZIM GAFOOR at Vreed-en- Hoop, WBD, but agents later discovered that the device’s storage was ‘wiped’ and as such, CANU says they are now seeking international assistance in retrieving the data, that may have been therein.
Canu still has a wanted bulletin out for businessman Narine Lall, who the agency is seeking for questioning into the multi-million dollar Cocaine in Lumber bust at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo. In a release to the media on Tuesday, CANU said the suspected girlfriend of Stephen Vieira was Yesterday afternoon also brought to CANU HQ for questioning and subsequently released.
Stephen Vieira through his lawyer Latchmi Rahamat provided a statement to investigators denying culpability. He and the other suspects in the matter are to return to CANU HQ pursuant to the ongoing investigation.
According to the Customs Anti- Narcotics Unit to date, the investigation is still incomplete. None of the persons arrested and interviewed have been charged.
The agency noted that it would be expedient to charge persons “only after we have enough evidence to link the parties and the contraband all with a view to ensuring a successful prosecution, rather than to rush and come up short in the courts”.
CANU says it still considers this narcotic exercise to a great extent successful since the Unit was able to expose and put a dent as well in the pockets of the financers of this clandestine operation.
