Hundreds of sugar workers and supporters on Thursday, May 11 protested the pending closure of the Rose hall Estate. General Secretary of the Guyana Agriculture and General workers Union, Seepaul Narine who joined the protest said the government should reconsider the closure of the estate, given that it has upset workers, who believe that the decision was wrong. Regional Chairman David Armogan said he continues to use every opportunity to call for Rose Hall estate to remain open.
In the policy paper presented to the National Assembly on Monday, Agriculture Minister Noel Holder said the Government cannot allow GUYSUCO to continue utilizing a business model that is based on waste, inefficiency, and hopelessness, ultimately, leading to its undoing.
