New Interim Horse Racing Authority elected

Businessman and horse racing executive, Poonai Bhiroog was elected president of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority at the election held at Phool Hall, West Coast Berbice on Sunday 30th April, 2017.

Bhiroog said his immediate task is to raise the standard of the sport and to attract more small stables to horse racing.

He sees horse racing as a good tourism event for Guyana and noted that from the sport can create employment.

Other members of the executives are 1st Vice President, Fazal Habibulla, 2nd Vice President, Dennis De Roop,3rd Vice President, Mohindra Persaud,
Secretary Godwyn Allicock, Treasurer, Francis Chichester, Assistant Sec/ Tres, Issac Dallo.
Committee Members- Nazrudeen Mohammed(Junior), Therbhuwan Jagdeo and Lakeram Sookdeo.

The Jockey’s representative is Alan Padmore while Colin Elcock is the Trainers Representatives and Zaheer Sheriff, Horse Owners Representatives.

The newly elected body replaced the Vic Oudit lead administration which has been inactive for a number of years. That body was able to compile the much needed Horse Racing Legislation which is still to be tabled in Parliament.
