An East Ruimveldt resident was today sentenced to three years in prison for cocaine possession when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The man, 26-year-old Anthony Gibson plead guilty to the offence and was also fined $1.4 million for the 548 grams of cocaine found in his possession. Gibson did not receive the maximum sentence because he cooperated with the police.
The prosecutor told that court that on April 24, the young man was an outgoing passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport destined for the Bahamas but was stopped by lawmen because he was observed acting in a suspicious manner. It was while being questioned that the young man admitted to ingesting cocaine. At the Georgetown Public Hospital, he secreted 52 pellets. Gibson was employed a popular fast food restaurant.
