Fisherman dies as a result of a perforated heart and lung due to stab wound – PM report

The Post  Mortem report conducted on the remains of fisherman Munaf Azeez has revealed that he died as a result of a perforated heart and lung due to stab wounds.
The autopsy was performed today by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, at the Ezekiel Funeral Home at Best Village, West Coast Demerara.

Five persons were taken into police custody in connection with the death of 26-year-old Anna Catherina Fisherman, Munaf Azeez.

The police in a press statement said investigations conducted by ranks of Regional Divisional 3 revealed that five men approached Azeez at the Anna Catherina Sea Wall on Monday where they accused him of chopping up their seine. It is said that one of the men was armed with a cutlass while the other was armed with a knife.

The police reported that an argument ensued and the suspect with the knife dealt Azeez a stab to the lower right-side chest. The young fisherman ran a short distance before collapsing to the ground while the suspects ran in different directions.

One of the suspects, a 28-year-old fisherman who ran to his car which was parked on the Sea dam, was arrested by a mobile patrol. According to the police, the fisherman who owned several boats identified the others in the attack.

Azeez was picked up and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the police said the file is with the DPP for legal advice.
