Six charged with murder of pandit who was beaten to death in front of his home

Six men were today charged with the murder of Rishi Barrat who was beaten to death in front of his home. The six men were hauled before Magistrate Alex Moore in the  #51 Village Magistrates’ Court this morning where the indictable charge of murder was read to them. Charged are Devendra Khemraj, Ramzan Ally, Javed Ghanie, Anil Angersham, Gregory Tejpertab and Vidaianand Khemraj. The men were in front of the 60 year old man’s home at lot 10 Grant 106 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice imbibing and using foul language.  Barrat reportedly went out to the men with a piece of wood and told them to move from in front of his yard.

This did not sit well with the suspects and according to the Police, the men became annoyed, armed themselves and dealt the victim several blows about his body which caused him to fall in the street.

The victim was picked up by his relatives in an unconscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The men were all remanded to prison and will make their next court appearance on 14th October.
