Pensioner perishes in an early morning fire. 8 Homeless.

A Former general manager of National Printers Limited perished in an early morning fire in John Street Campbellville. Dead is Angold Thompson 76. 8 persons are now homeless. His daughter Emani Thompson said she awakened by a loud noise, and her son calling her. She then went into one of the bedrooms and saw the blazing fire on the mattress which quickly spread to the wall.

The woman said they tried to put out the fire but it quickly got out of control and they began waking up the other occupants to evacuate the house.

She said while coming out, Thompson turned back and was trapped in the blaze. His remains were later discovered after the fire was extinguished.
Nothing was saved from the two storied building. As the victim’s remains were removed by undertakers of the Memorial Gardens Funeral home, relatives burst into tears. An investigation is currently underway by the Police and Guyana Fire Service to ascertain the origin of the fire.
