Days after the shooting incident involving the Region 9 (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) Regional Executive Officer Karl Singh, the Guyana Police Force is now reporting that the shooting was accidental. Gladys Emmanuel, a pharmacist of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi was reportedly shot to her abdomen by Region 9 Regional Executive Officer Karl Singh on Wednesday. According to the initial police report which stated that the victim was in the company of the said suspect in his motor pickup on the main access road at Lethem in the vicinity of Kanuku Lodge when she was allegedly shot to the region of her abdomen. Singh was arrested and placed in custody after he took the woman to the Lethem Regional Hospital. His licensed firearm was seized and lodged. On Thursday, he was released on $100,000 dollars station bail and is expected to return to the Lethem Police Station today. Emmanuel is still hospitalised as she recovers from the gunshot injury. The police investigations are ongoing.
