Schools across the country are to remain closed for the month of May, due to the increasing COVID-19 infections. Minister of Education Priya Manickchand made the announcement on Thursday.
“We have been advised that given the numbers for both COVID infections and as well as the rate of the vaccination process, we will stay closed except for the classrooms that have already been reopened and have already returned to school.
The said at the end of May she will provide an update as to what the decision will be taken for June. Manickchand however, encouraged persons, particularly teachers and parents to be vaccinated. She also said there were concerns over the slowness of some communities and interest groups to be vaccinated.
