Sugar workers are continuing their protest action with the aim of bring the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) to the bargaining table to discuss wages and salary increases for the period 2019-2021.
Today workers from the Uitvlugt Estate joined the call, demanding that the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) end its procrastination regarding wages and salary discussions with the Union. This protest comes on the heels of a picketing exercise by their colleagues of Albion and Blairmont estates.
The workers lamented that the GUYSUCO’s hierarchy has taken their cooperative attitude for granted. According to the union, the workers are of the belief that while they are being asked to be patient, they are learning that some in the top brass of the sugar company may be engaged in self-aggrandizement. This the workers pointed out does not send a positive message and undermines the calls for cooperation.
