Sugar workers are back on the protest line, calling for the management of the corporation to resume discussions on the wages and salary increases.
Sugar workers from the Blairmont and Albion Estates today held a picketing exercise outside of the administrative offices of Blairmont and Albion calling on GUYSUCO to bring an end to what the union calls its protracted procrastination regarding wages/salaries negotiations.
The Union in a press statement said several months it resumed discussions with the sugar corporation on wages/salaries improvements but there appears to be no movement on the part of GUYSUCO.
The wait, the corporation said unfortunately moved from days, to weeks then into months with no response from the corporation.
In a January 28th correspondence, the union said it reminded the Corporation of its undertaking to respond to the Union and workers.
Subsequently, at a meeting on March 09, 2021, the GAWU and the GuySuCo resumed discussions. However, give the protracted period, both the union and workers had high expectations that they would receive a favourable response but that was not the case. The corporation instead called on the union to provide proposals for wages/salaries for the period 2019-2021.
