On Wednesday the Guyana Police Force revoked the appointment of Reverend Patrick Doolichand as the Force’s Chaplain effective, March 10, 2021 and replaced him with Reverend Eric Bassant, a former Assistant Commissioner of Police.
The police gave no reason for the revocation but there are reports that the revocation stemmed from a prayer Doolichand made at the annual police officers conference, last week. By late Wednesday the police issued a statement saying that the appointment of Pastor Patrick Doolichand was reviewed and immediately withdrawn.
According to the police the Commissioner of Police (ag) Mr. Nigel Hoppie, DSM, has communicated with Pastor Doolichand and he has consented to continue serving in the capacity as Chaplain of the Guyana Police Force.
The police then went on to say contrary to what was stated in the revocation letter – His Excellency the President, Dr. Irfaan Ali, has indicated that he appreciated the eloquent and forthright prayer Force Chaplain Pastor Doolichand at the Annual Police Officers’ Conference and that he never had any issue with it.
