Five persons are in the COVID-19 ICU. 45 persons are in institutional quarantine. Deaths remain at 22.
Globally, there are more than 20 million confirmed COVID-19 cases with in excess of 700,000 deaths related to the respiratory infection.
Health officials have been pleading with Guyanese to act responsibly and to observe the COVID-19 precautionary measures to protect themselves.
The World Health Organisation in a statement in March said that approximately 80% of people will recover from the disease without needing special treatment and for the majority – especially for children and young adults – illness due to COVID-19 is generally minor.
however, for some people, it can cause serious illness. Around 1 in every 5 people who are infected with COVID-19 develop difficulty in breathing and require hospital care.
