A West Coast Demerara woman was today charged and released on $60,000 bail for demanding money with menace. The woman Natasha Singh of Crane, West Coast Demerara is accused of demanding $200,000 from 72-year-old Mohammed Yusuf with the intent to steal.
While the prosecutor did not state the facts of the case, reports are that Singh and Yusuf are known to each other and that Singh visited Yusuf’s home where she demanded the money. Yusuf told Singh that he did now have money but she placed him in a car and kidnapped him.
She then relieved the man of his cellular phone and documents and demanded that he hand over the $200,000 for his freedom. It was said that she used the man’s phone she called his son demanded the money, however the son in turn alerted the police and the woman arrested.
The woman who is said to be a mother of four was represented by attorney-at-law Everton Lammy-Singh who asked that she be released on her self-bail as she is the sole breadwinner of her family but was instead released on $60,000 and is to return to Court on July 20.
