Developing Story: The Guyana Police Force is mourning the death of one of their own who was reportedly shot dead at Karrau in Region 7. He was identified as Sergeant Alex Vaughn.
Unconfirmed reports revealed that at the time of the shooting, the Police were in search of Prison Escapee Akeem Wong.
Wong was fingered in the Saxacalli Mission, Essequibo Island murders of 75-year-old Nellie Gomes and her 49-year-old son David Gomes of Durban Street, Worthmanville Georgetown. They mother and son were hacked to death last Friday at their Saxacalli Mission, Essequibo Island home.
The Head of the Police Communications Department Mark Ramotar confirmed the death of the police sergeant. Further, he said that in conversation with the Crime Chief, he has indicated that detectives are currently en route to the location to ascertain the circumstances/details of the shooting death of Sergeant Alex Vaughn. He promised to update the media as soon as he gets more details.
